Annual Bluegrass weevil (ABW)
From a superintendents perspective annual bluegrass weevils are the worst pest we encounter on the golf course. ABW's can cause extensive damage to playing surfaces and can be very hard to control because you need to monitor them to see where they are in there life cycle. We target the adults in April when they come out from over wintering. The first generation larvae cause the most damage as stem borers and crown feeders. This is where we are right now.
The picture below only the poa is being damaged. ABW's do not eat on Rye grass.
Below is a picture of a larvae I found on 12 approach. They are very small.
we will continue our fight with these ABW'S through the summer as these pests can go 2 or 3 generations or life cycles until they retreat to the woods in the fall.
